I am Dr Shihaan M Larif (M.B;B.S)

M.B;B.S stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

I have started this blog so that I can provide free pregnancy related information for laymen as well as for professionals.

Pregnancy is a time of great anticipation and apprehension, especially for young couples having their first baby. This is coupled with the ever increasing cost of health care especially in developed countries.

I am also a great believer of the internet and its ability to connect people and provide answers to virtually any question. I also enjoy meeting and helping people on the internet.

For some people the information on this blog can be overwhelming. Don’t be overwhelmed. I have made the articles as simple as possible, even laymen can understand. I have also done my best to explain medical terminology where applicable in simple laymen language.

You will notice that most of my articles are initially meant for pregnant women/laymen looking for information, while the latter part is directed at the  health care worker/doctors etc (Where you will see me using sentences such as ideally, it is important to take a good history of etc).

For people who are still overwhelmed I have created a category called “For Laymen” .Articles written for professionals are also simplified for laymen by using brackets whenever a medical term is used.

I live and work in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka provides free health care for all its citizens (even for major surgeries).The government spends over 30% of the budget on health care.

My main hobbies are computer programing and mineralogy. I am one of the beleivers of “Open Source Software” which has revolutionized the internet. Examples of this are wikipedia and wordpress.

I also help my Dad maintain a popular mineralogy/gemology website which was even quoted by the Bloomberg Corporation of New York.My dad is a chemistry graduate. The name of the website is Internet Stones.COM, so if you have interest in gems, diamonds and minerals, please feel free to check it out.
